Are you ready for sustainability certification?
The year that just ended saw Canada's 5,000th LEED-certified project. LEED is more than a marginal movement: large institutions have taken the step and the landscape is set to change, allowing more sustainable management of our resources. According to an old adage, as construction goes, everything goes. For now, construction in Canada is idling. Take a moment to reflect on the future of this sector: read an interview in this issue with an expert from the Canada Green Building Council. Good reading!

Case Study: Stepping Away From An Arc Flash Hazard
It was a pesky glitch: an intermittent problem that tripped the breaker and interrupted the 480 V power to one of two 100-horsepower fan motors driving the dust filtration system at an Ohio asphalt plant. But not a major safety problem. At least that's how it looked.

Canadian municipalities issued building permits worth $6.6 billion in November, down 13.8% from October, following two consecutive monthly increases. Widespread declines in both the non-residential and residential sectors in several provinces were responsible for the decrease in November.
